What is an AIEFT Practise Day? An inside look.

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to train in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) beyond the classroom, Practise Days might be the perfect glimpse behind the scenes.
Run by the Australian Institute of Emotion Focused Therapy (AIEFT), Practise Days are regular events (held 3 – 6 times a year) that bring together therapists and trainees to hone their EFT skills in a supportive, collaborative environment.

These full-day events, offered both online and in-person at our Melbourne base, are designed to deepen practical skills, foster connection, and grow confidence through shared learning and hands-on experience.
What actually happens on a Practise Day?
Each day runs from 9.30am to 5.00pm and is guided by internationally accredited EFT Therapists. The agenda is shaped with input from participants themselves – allowing each day to reflect the group’s interests and learning needs.

Here’s what to expect:
- Gentle grounding or mini-focusing to start the day
- Collaborative planning (‘whiteboarding’) of activities and practice sessions
- Group discussions, triad exercises, or targeted skill-building (e.g. working with anxiety, self-criticism, or therapist self-care)
- A supportive debrief to wrap up the day
Why does it matter?
EFT is a rich, experiential model – and like all meaningful therapy approaches, it takes time and practise to embody. These days are a chance for therapists to stay connected with the work, each other, and their own growth.
For those newer to EFT, Practise Days also offer a chance to try out what is learnt in Levels training, with guidance and support from the wider EFT community.
A member benefit worth knowing about
Practise Days are member-only events, though people who have recently completed Level 1 or 2 training are welcome to attend one Practise Day as a guest.

Becoming a member of AIEFT gives you:
- Access to these valuable practice spaces
- Ongoing connection with the EFT community
- Discounts on training, resources, and more
If you’re looking to keep developing as an EFT therapist – in the company of people who genuinely care about this work – a membership with AIEFT is a great next step.
New members joining from September get their membership for the rest of the year, and the full following year!
