EFT in Action: Getting the most out of two-chair dialogue work

Getting the most out of two-chair dialogue work

The AIEFT is excited to be hosting the workshops ‘Emotion focused therapy in action’, run by Barry Strmelj. These workshops are suitable for practitioners with a background in EFT training (at least EFT Level 1) and who utilise, or are looking to incorporate EFT into their work with clients.

*Each workshop is designed to be attended independently; there are no requirement to attend all of them.

The two-chair dialogue task where different parts of self are put in chairs to facilitate a dialogue between them, is a core task in EFT. It can be a powerful and transformative as well as setting the scene for deeper change processes. However, at different points in the task, from marker identification to task initiation and to the deepening phase, there can be a number of challenges and hurdles that risk limiting its effectiveness if not derailing the task altogether. This workshop will give you an opportunity to bring your own experiences of performing the task and any concerns that it may have raised. We will review the EFT literature and demonstrations of the task, from the point of view of not getting it right but of how it can deepen our understanding of client emotional change processes. The workshop aims to develop a deeper sense of how you might respond when these difficulties and challenges arise when facilitating this task with clients.

Each workshop in this series will offer a deep dive into an area of EFT practice to offer a deeper understanding of the practice area under consideration, to inspire confidence when working with clients in this way, and to provide a practice map for practitioners’ ongoing self-reflections and development.
